Streamlining data collection and systems to inform decisions
One of our superpowers is creating data collection and management efficiencies. In this case study, we overhauled a client’s data process, which resulted in a positive ripple effect across the organization.
The opportunity
Our client had been stockpiling information in their database for more than four years. With so much information, our client wanted a fresh pair of eyes to ensure their data collection process was efficient, measurable and providing value to their team.
Back of the Napkin Consulting was hired to sift through their systems, reconcile their data collection process, and inspire their team to use data to fuel goals.
The goals
Our goals were to:
Evaluate our client’s database to identify the information being collected
Determine if the data structure was measuring what needed to be measured to inform their team
Get staff invested in our efforts to ensure their work was represented in report
The work
Not only did we need to look at the data points, but our project required us to delve deeper into the context of that data. To streamline data collection across the organization, we collaborated with multiple departments to ensure the data aligned with their top priorities.
The result
Our work kickstarted a unified conversation about data.
Team members engaged in great conversations about data. They shared what data was important to them, which helped direct our efforts.
We caught multiple misrepresentations in the field and found a lack of logic models. We distilled their systems down by 30% and created a clear data hierarchy to make management a breeze for our client.
This project was problem-solving at its finest. We identified what was missing, eliminated what wasn’t necessary, helped each department feel heard, and established the infrastructure for data to help the team at work.
